TEEI Networking Workshop *Special Guest: Gayle Roberts Networking Guru!*

When: Wednesday November 19, 2008 from 5:30pm to 7pm

Where: The SF LGBT Center, 1800 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94102

Are you interested in tapping the vast network of unadvertised positions? In this workshop you will learn how to leverage your existing network of contacts and gain valuable skills to help expand that network. You will also practice networking techniques to help you get closer to the community and organizations that interest you. Space is limited RSVP at clairf@sfcenter.org.

Transgender Vocal Adaptation Workshop with Rebecca Root MA: voice and communication skills teacher

When: Saturday November 22nd, 2008 2-5pm

Where: The SF LGBT Center, 1800 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94102

This workshop is for both MtF and FtM TS/TG people who are either transitioning or post-transitioned, as well as those who are presently undecided and wish to explore the gender presentation of their voice. In it,you will discover the range and flexibility of transgender voice; and understanding how physicality can help enhance the voice.

Focus includes

· Breath and support

· Power and projection

· Articulation and resonance

· Modifying pitch and intonation

· Raising your confidence and allowing your voice to match your gender

Cost

Space is limited and places are reserved on a first come first served basis. $10-50 per person (sliding scale to accommodate cross section of economic groups). A limited number of scholarships are available to eligible participants via TEEI and The Center. The workshop begins with an introductory half hour seminar after which participants may decide to stay or leave. A contribution for this portion is entirely voluntary.

About Rebecca Root

TS herself, Rebecca is uniquely placed as a voice teacher to guide transitioning people find their gendered voice. Recent credits include gender voice specialist and dialect coach for "Brief Encounters", a play devised collaboratively by young LGBT people in conjunction with Gendered Intelligence(London), and Fringe Benefits (Los Angeles).

She works as Voice Teacher for San Francisco Voice Center, and Performers College, Essex, UK;and privately with clients from the business and academic worlds on communication and presentation skills. She has also coached at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. Rebecca continues her work as an actor, with credits including Casualty (BBC Television), Midsomer Murders (ITV), Keeping Up Appearances (BBC Television), The Detectives (BBC Television), Hamlet (European tour and London West End).

TLC Legal Workshop

When: Tue Nov 25, 2008 at 5:30pm

Where: The SF LGBT Center, 1800 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94102

Description: TLC provides comprehensive workshops specially designed for members of the transgender community in California. The workshops will provide participants with an overview of laws and regulations that affect your ability to express your gender identity. Bring your legal questions and get answers and advice. Some specific topics covered in the TLC workshops include: - Changing legal documents - Gender identity discrimination in housing, employment, public accommodation, and education - Marriage and child custody -Immigration and asylum - Healthcare - related legal issues. Trans-Spirituality: Meditation & Prayer

When: Mon Dec 1, 2008 from 6pm to 8pm

Where: SF LGBT Center - 1800 Market St. Room Q-11



Trans-Spirituality, is the first monthly gathering designed to empower the transgender population by engaging the Spirit! Each month is dedicated to a new topic by engaging via lecture, interaction, meditation, short films, book readings, etc. December’s topic is Meditation & Prayer: Ever say that you tried meditation and just couldn’t do it? Let’s let go of the limited thoughts and move gracefully into a meditative world! Demonstration of how to meditate, discussing the many methods of it and how the many traditions use it. This is the most effective tool in reconnecting with your essence and thus your purpose for being. Covering the various forms of meditation and how it is becoming more common in today’s world. This group is open to all transgender community members and allies.

Special guest: Rabbi Elliot Rose Kukla from the Bay Area Jewish Healing Center. He lectures and leads workshops across the US and Canada for spiritual leaders and health care providers on stigma and diversity in Jewish sacred texts. Rabbi Kukla is particularly interested in developing liturgy that sanctifies moments of loss and transition. His new lifecycle prayers are published widely and are used in congregations across the country. Rabbi Kukla is committed to accompanying individuals on their unique, non-linear journeys towards healing. He draws on expressive arts, mindfulness meditation, traditional and innovative rituals in his spiritual care.

PEG Presents: Transitioning and Thriving in the Workplace

When: Wed December 3rd, 2008 at 5:30pm to 7pm

Transgender Economic Empowerment Initiative (TEEI) introduces a Peer Empowerment Group where members of the community can come together in an informal setting to provide mutual support for our personal and professional development. Thinking about transitioning on the job? Are you struggling with your job search or is your employer challenging you because of your gender expression? Are you looking for a work/life balance? If so then this group is for you. This month PEG is joined by 3 diverse transgender community members working various sectors in the Bay Area. The panel will share their personal transition stories and discuss both challenges/benefits of being out in the workplace. The Q &A portion of the group will be moderated by Clair and Davey, members of the TEEI team. (This is a Free Drop-in space open to all members of the Transgender/gender nonconforming community and allies. You do not have to be enrolled in the TEEI program to attend!) Clair's Drop-in

When: Every Wednesday from 1pm to 4pm

Where: The SF LGBT Center, 1800 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94102.

Description: Clair's Drop-in is open to advise transgender community members on their personal evolution providing free support including: An introduction to the TEEI program and services; Membership into our Peer Mentoring Program; Networking opportunities; and access to Community Gatherings! Clair will also provide comprehensive referrals with employment, housing, health care, legal issues, and more! It is recommended that you call ahead to verify your walk-in time beforehand.
