The Day After: Where Are We On ENDA?

The National Equality March is over, and here we are waking up on a long holiday weekend. Now what? What next?

Our next step in our federal agenda should be focusing on ENDA in the Senate. Of all our initiatives, that will affect the largest number of people in our community in the most important area of our lives: the ability to get and keep a job. And it's achievable in the next few months.

The House is practically on board, and the vote will happen in the next few weeks. My calculations, as… Continue

The Senate Version of ENDA, S1584, is introduced - What's the Math?

cross-posted from Bilerico.com

Yesterday, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, S 1584, was introduced into the U.S. Senate by Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley, along with three other co-sponsors, two of them Republicans.

It has been widely noted in press releases that it's the first time ENDA has been introduced in the Senate, though it has been in the House in many… Continue

Jillian,

Thanks. The article is very interesting. Since I'm not a lawyer I cannot opine. However, I wonder how would things look under Israeli law. Of course, the law does not exist independently of society, and for me, the interesting aspect of the matter are the ways in which social attitudes influence jurisprudence.

I was just looking at your friends. Gee, there are a lot of kittys, and doggies, and camels, oh my!!! I have to wonder how all of them from all over the country and world have managed to find the same picture?!?!
I left a comment on Bilerco, I am still optimistic on the chances for a fully inclusive ENDA. A lot of us have been working on this. In response to HRC going back on their promise to support us, I see many trans people becoming more and more active. That is a very good result of of a momentary betrayal. If you are a bit of a fatalist, like me, It seems "meant to happen" in the sense that we trans were awakened out of our somnambalism which, hopefully won't happen again. We need to fight our own battles. We have certainly taken more than enough casualties, as the Day of Remembrance Ceremonies will testify. Sites like this can only help to keep sanity and information swirling so we can keep our impetus. Thanks for doing this.

The Poly Pride Picnic is no longer listed under events. I think that events not directly related to transgender workplace issues should be listed elsewhere.

Hi Jillian,

Was hoping you would comment on the appropriateness of the "poly pride picnic" event listed under events on this site. I personally do not like seeing it there and it makes me feel a little unsafe. There are, I suspect, many forums for that kind of event but I do not think that a trans workplace diversity site is one of them.

Thanks.

Thank you Jillian for setting up this network, it came at just the right time for me. I hope I can contribute and help others as well as gain valuable information and insight as I approach my "coming out" at work.

Hi, Jill!! First of all, WHOSE is this adorable puppy??? I want him/her!!! I´m still in Buenos Aires and have been to 3 klezmer concerts, one play about conservative Jewish women, and will be spending the upcoming holidays with my Jewish friends. I might as well convert!!! - However, most of them are not religious, and neither am I, so, why bother? I just love the people here. I´ve had great discussions, and still will be meeting with many more people for interviews and plays, movies, eating out, etc. I am having a ball! The dissertation can wait until I get home!

Hope you are doing well. I doubt that I can go to the Nov. 8 conference at Temple, unfortunately, however, I will tell Sandro about it and maybe he´ll go.

I am elated that things have gone so fabulously for you after being in the pit of Northeastern. Take excellent care, and let´s keep in touch.

Mucho love - Christina

Hi Jillian,

I am enjoying your site, although I just started work last week and life is a little crazy right now trying to find time to do everything (or anything). I will be glad to help where I can, as a newly employed TS.
