Work Visas for Trans Individuals

It's hard dealing with the paperwork of name changes, customs, Homeland security et al. when you are from another country and you work elsewhere. This is a great place to discuss experiences, ask questions and figure out what needs to be addressed.

One of the bigger challenges, besides transitioning on the job, is transitioning while on a work visa. I'm contemplating the order of changing things -- do I get my name change done, then passport and green card (if I can get one) or do I get the green card and then change everything? And I worry how much DoHS (LOL -- how appropriate! The Department of Dohs!) will interfere with my transitioning or judge based on it.
