I was hired at Govinda Natur GmbH in Germany as the director´s personal assistant, and they were absolutely conscious that I am transgendered and will undergo transition. We openly deal with it and I´m already fully being a woman at my workplace, despite still having to go through most of my transition including facial feminisation surgery etc.

I just left a good job in TN working for Jewelry Television to relocate to the Denver area. Took me 3mos to find that position at JTV.com, but they are very accepting and supportive there. Now I get to start all over. I pray it goes a little faster here!

The University of California, San Francisco hires transgender people, myself included. In addition, the UC system offers transition surgical/health care benefits up to a lifetime limit of $75,000.
Before I became an employee I was a patient. I have always received high quality care from a courteous staff. My own primary care doctor offered to take over management of my HRT once I had worked out dosage with a doctor that specialized in assisting the TG/TS community.

UCSF employs close to 20,000 people in a variety of occupations making them the second largest employer in San Francisco.

Hi,

I just thought I would add that the Northern Territory Government(Australia), seems to be O.K. employing TG people, well they are an Equal opportuity employer, and as far as I know, I am the only one employed by them, well in Alice Springs anyway, so I can only go on my experance, and I have had no real problems, I went through there entry level employent, and have done temp work both, before and after I began my Transition, the only things is that I can not change the gender on my employment records until I have had my surgery, as that is their policy, but in all other respevt I am recognised as a woman

Hi,

I was working on line for years, but those days are over. My company did a big bust a year ago, so I've been trying to move to Wisconsin to go full time wihle away from family.

Does anyone have any advice on how to restart in Wisconsin? I'd love to move to Milwaukee or Kenosha.

Thanks,

Kimberly

Hello,
My experience here in the UK has not been good until quite recently.
I've been made redundant four times for being Transgendered, even though I hadn't started to Transition at that point.
However the last company I worked for, Gerhardt (UK) Ltd, knew when they hired me , in spite of my previous employer trying to spoil my job applications by telling all the prospective employers I was Trans and thats why they made me redundant!
My final employer also helped in my Transitioning and starting the RLE about 6 months before I finally retired, which was my own decision, as they wanted me to continue working for them. They even made donations of equipment etc to our support group in North Wales.
So don't give up hope of finding a good employer who appreciates that diversity adds to the skill base of the workforce.

I may be here under false pretenses. 4 months ago I volunteered my services at my local food bank (Auburn - N CA.). This is not a paid position, but has helped me immensely in my transition. I work 4 days a week, and have ~150 colleagues. Every single one of them has been absolutely fabulous about my female role in the organisation. The friends I have made and the amazing welcome I receive every day is just overwhelming. I have even had colleagues refer me to professional friends, neighbors and family in the hope of helping me find a full time job.

To me, this job, is as real as any I had, pre-transition. It is heartwarming and encouraging in ways that are difficult to describe. I hope to step from this experience into full time paid employment in the near future. Of course until that happens I am just blowing smoke, but I have to say that volunteering is a great way to gain acceptance, gain confidence, make new friends, network, and ultimately live the life I have wanted all these years.
A good employee is a treasure to be held and nurtured.

Yes, I too need money, but I truly believe that my volunteer experiences will bode well for my future.

You should give it a try.

I have joined this group cause it has also twigged my interests. Currently I am unemployed and also trying to maintain a business which I had to place on operations hold for now cause of lack in funds with which to operate.

I am hoping that I could also gain insight as to how I best can gain employment in my transitioning status. I am not afraid to work nor to enhance my skill sets. So, if anyone can lend a hand in offering me some ideas, suggestions and solid advice on how to get pass those interview doors and right into a payed employment situation I would much appreciate it.

Warmly,

After going full time I was hired by a top ranked health club in Atlanta, the Fulton County (Atlanta area) health department, gained entry in nursing school, then hired by a VA hospital for my first nursing job. I also turned down two job offers. All as an out TS in the past four years. I've encountered some set-backs along the way but overall I've had less problems than I'd anticipated once I went full time. OTOH being TS and obvious but not full time can be a disaster as I found out earlier.
