My name is Sofia Lenard, I am the owner of a company that I started a few years back, I specialize in hand made chainmail jewelry as well as hand made leather purses & wallets.
Hi I am Donna Marie from Garfield AR and I run a small computer repair shop and wireless ISP. I am in the last stages of planning to come out to my customers and I am scared to death at how it is going to turn out. I am glad to find other small business owners here. My company's web site is www.bltg.us . I would love to hear from anyone who has transitioned in a customer facing job.
It is nice to see others out there that are small business owners as well I was wondering if this was going to be a dead thread or not, send me a PM & we can exchange E-mails & talk more if you would like.
As to worrying about "dead threads". . . I find that this site is not very active in that sense but don't give up, this is a great place to connect. Facebook seems to be the dominant networking site even for the trans community.
I have been a small business owner most of my life as a luthier and for many years before transition as a cabinet-maker in New York state.
Leading up to and during transition I lost everything but retained a small section of my living space to resume instrument repair work. I was surprised to find that most of my former clients stayed with me and accepted my transition. Now I'm a partner at Luthier's Co-op in Easthampton, MA. Even though I don't chose to be "stealth" I'd say most clients don't know that I'm transsexual. (or they're just very polite) http://www.luthiers-coop.com
Wow there aren't many luthiers out there anymore, I was begining to think that they were a dying breed it is good to here that there are still some out there.
I'm sorry that you had to close down, but the economy isn't all that good anymore, I'm still trying to get up the money that I need for the things that I need so I can do business.
